Honda Tadakatsu Warrior of East Calligraphy Art Poster

Honda Tadakatsu Warrior of East Calligraphy Art Poster

本多平八郎忠勝: Honda Heihachiro Tadakatsu, or Honda Tadakatsu, was a Japanese samurai, general (and later a daimyo) of the late Sengoku through early Edo periods, who served Tokugawa Ieyasu. Honda Tadakatsu was one of the Tokugawa Four Heavenly Kings along with Ii Naomasa, Sakakibara Yasumasa and Sakai Tadatsugu, and has been regarded as one of the finest warrior at the time. 東國無雙: The Unmatched Warrior of the East, is the praise given to Tadakatsu by Toyotomi Hideyoshi after witnessing his battle, along with Tachibana Muneshige who he called the unmatched warrior of the West. 無傷闘神: Warrior of Zero Injury, this is referring to the record of Tadakatsu which he never once suffered a significant wound, despite being the veteran of 57 battles by the end of his life, and because he was never defeated by another samurai. In the background is the kamon (family crest) of Honda, Honda tachi aoi (本多立ち葵) or "Honda standing wild ginger", follow by the weapon Tonbokiri (蜻蛉切), and his falg Hon-monji (本文字) or "Letter Hon".

I hung this in the stairwell of our house, near some other Renoir pictures. My daughter says it looks like she is looking at her when she walks up the stairs. it's called "The Excursionist", she is holding a walking stick. Renoir was an impressionist, I don't think this is an actual person. The finished framed picture arrived and looks better than the online pic - Beautiful!

Absolutely superb Art Deco poster. The colours are vibrant, sympathetic to the era and perfect for use. I framed it and hung above the entrance to my Art Deco inspired lounge room. Stunning! The print is precise, clear and of an excellent standard. It was cleverly packaged so there wasn’t a blemish or crease. Perfect!
