Living most of their time in aquatic environments can sound very cool, but doesn't help very much when you are plump and you don't know very well what goes inside your digestive tract. In hippos society, burping is a very acceptable behaviour which is preferably performed in solid ground for practical reasons and a healthy way to prevent indigestion by releasing gases that have been swallowed by inadvertence!
