Hermann Oberth (1894-1989)
He was a pioneer in the use of liquid propellants in rocketry and authored
"Die Rakete zu den Planetenräumen" (The Rocket into Interplanetary Space),
which mathematically explained how rockets could achieve the speed to escape Earth's
gravitational pull. Werner von Braun is more well known but Oberth was his mentor.
