Gračanica Monastery Kosovo Postcard

Gračanica Monastery is a stunning example of late Byzantine architecture located in Gračanica, Kosovo. Founded by Serbian King Stefan Milutin in 1321, the church is renowned for its cross-in-square design with five distinct domes, arranged in a visually complex yet harmonious manner. The exterior is chraacterised by rich decorative brickwork and stone patterns, while the interior houses some of the most beautiful and well-preserved frescoes of the Palaeologan Renaissance, including portraits of the Nemanjić dynasty and religious scenes. As a crucial spiritual and cultural centre, the monastery has weathered many historical challenges. Today, it stands as an active convent and is a key part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site 'Mediaeval Monuments in Kosovo'.
