The World Health Organization recommends avoiding unnecessary close contact when you or the other person may have the flu, to minimize virus transmission. For some, this includes avoiding hand-shakes and hugs. It does make sense, and with this design, you may signal to others that you're open to try the foot-shake (aka Wuhan handshake), and so you will perhaps avoid dealing with embarrassing situations (e.g. refusing an offered hand) and have fun at the same time.
