Glenbarr Abbey – MacAlister Clan Napkin

Glenbarr Abbey – MacAlister Clan Napkin

If your branch of the MacAlister Clan is gathering anytime soon, everyone can enjoy a reminder of your shared history with these practical paper napkins. They’re great as conversation starters. Glenbarr Abbey was built circa 1700 as an inn or post house where travelers changed horses. It is located south of the village of Glenbarr, in ancient ancestral Macalister lands that encompassed much of Kintyre and Knapdale from the 12th century on. In 1796, Matthew MacAlister purchased Barr House, which stood on lands formerly owned by his clan but confiscated after 1746. Not long after buying Barr House, Matthew MacAlister married and commissioned Gillespie Graham to add embellishments, in stages, to Barr House, which he renamed Glenbarr Abbey. The renovations were completed in 1815. The clan is a branch of Clan Donald, being considered the earliest branch to have split from the main. The MacAlister clan claims descent from Alasdair Mor, son of Domhnall, founder of Clan Donald, and originated in the Western Isles. Clan members were Jacobites and lost their lands and fortune following the 1745 uprising. It is considered a Lowland Clan as Kennow House is located in North Ayrshire, Parish of Dunlop Scotland. I love this design, so much that I am building a Christmas Party with "Silent Night, Holy Night" theme. I have been building a supply of items featuring this design. The colours and printing are brilliant and will decorate my table for fine dinning with these napkins.

This cheeky quokka napkin made the best of part conversation pieces. It seemed a shame to wipe one's face on it. Layer-upon-layer of meaning was slowly revealed in the quokka's expression and enigmatic body language as the cocktails started taking effect. The product arrived in a handy box so that dust did not gather on the napkins beforehand. This was an excellent, good-resolution representation of a quokka. The image was large and the animal nicely centered. The paper quality was also of an acceptable softness.
