Georges Seurat - Le Chahut French Post-Impessionist painter Georges Pierre Seurat painted Le Chahut between 1889 and 1890. He originated the technique of painting with small dots of pure colour known as Pointillism. Seurat studied the science of optics and the effects of mixing and juxtaposing colours. He developed his own theories, which are seen in his paintings. Calm is achieved through an equivalence/balance of the use of the light and the dark, by the balance of warm and cold colours, and by lines that are horizontal.
