Galibi Nature Reserve Suriname Postcard

Galibi Nature Reserve is a remote coastal sanctuary located at the mouth of the Marowijne River, famous for being one of the most important nesting sites for giant sea turtles. Between February and August, leatherback and green sea turtles emerge from the Atlantic waves to lay their eggs on the golden sands under the moonlight. The area is also home to indigenous Kalinha communities who live in harmony with the tides and the seasonal rhythms of the wildlife. The landscape is chraacterised by shifting sandbanks, brackish lagoons, and coastal mangroves that shimmer in the tropical sun. It is a place of serene beauty where the river meets the ocean, creating a unique ecosystem rich in avian life and marine biodiversity.
