FNC Urn & Swans Kitchen Towels

This intricate aluminium panel is a hallmark of the Art Deco and Neoclassical design that defines the First National Centre in Oklahoma City. Originally completed in 1931, the building famously contained more aluminium than any other structure in the world at the time. The panel displays "modern depictions of classical ornamentation," a theme consistent throughout the building's exterior aluminium trim. A large, stylised urn or vase sits at the base, overflowing with lavish foliage and floral elements. Symmetrical figures, often identified as swans or peacocks, flank the central vessel. The design is densely packed with swirling foliage, rosettes, and scrolling vines. Other panels on the building also feature eagles, cherubs, wheat and corn, and other figures. While predominantly Art Deco, some of these intricate aluminium wrappings reportedly drew inspiration from motifs found in King Tutankhamen’s tomb.
