According to an article in Wikipedia, the television series follows a Bottlenose Dolphin named Flipper, who was the wild pet of the park warden and his sons, at the fictional Coral Key Park and Marine Preserve in southern Florida. Flipper played the role of a wild dolphin, the companion animal of the park wardens family. Flipper was an extraordinarily intelligent dolphin who helped enforce regulations on the preserve, assisted the park warden with rescues at sea, and kept a watchful eye on his sons.
