Executive Order 10834 was necessary to establish a standard design and specification for the flag, as the design had been modified several times since its initial creation in 1777. The order was signed into law on August 24, 1959, by President Dwight D. Eisenhower to ensured that the flag would remain a consistent symbol of the country and its values, regardless of any future modifications or changes. This uses the colours "White No. 70001," "Old Glory Red No. 70180," and "Old Glory Blue No. 70075" (Standard Colour Reference of America) as laid out in Federal Specification DDD-F-416F.
