"First say to yourself what you would be, then do what you have to do." - an inspiring quote from Epictetus, a Stoic philosopher. Decide what you want, where you want to be, then do the things you need to do to make your dreams come true. This motivational quote refers to positive action, decisions, priorities and desires. Epictetus (A.D. c. 55 – 135) was born a slave to Greek parents in Rome. He's often pictured with a crutch but the source of his leg injury or lameness isn't really known. His real name also isn't known, as "Epictetus" just means "acquired" in Greek. His master allowed him to study philosophy. Epictetus eventually won his freedom and became a teacher, first in Rome, then in Greece. His teachings were written down by Arrian, one of his students. Epictetus favored discipline and simplicity, and influenced many people throughout the ages, including Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius.
