First Presbyterian Church, New Orleans, 1938 Poster

First Presbyterian Church, New Orleans, 1938 Poster

First Presbyterian Church, South Street, New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana. Photo taken in January 1938 by photographer Richard Koch. LOC original medium: 4 x 5 inch photo. Historic American Buildings Survey. Nice 1930s view with classic cars out front. Description with the photo: "The present owner of the site is the Government of the United States, which acquired it with the building thereon in 1938, for the erection of the present Federal Building. The vendor was the Corporation of the First Presbyterian Church, by whom the site had been owned continuously since 1835. An earlier church was built on this site by the same Congregation in 1835, destroyed by fire in 1854, and rebuilt in 1857. This building was damaged by the hurricane of 1915, and repaired at a cost of $100,000. It was demolished in April and May 1938."

I hung this in the stairwell of our house, near some other Renoir pictures. My daughter says it looks like she is looking at her when she walks up the stairs. it's called "The Excursionist", she is holding a walking stick. Renoir was an impressionist, I don't think this is an actual person. The finished framed picture arrived and looks better than the online pic - Beautiful!

Absolutely superb Art Deco poster. The colours are vibrant, sympathetic to the era and perfect for use. I framed it and hung above the entrance to my Art Deco inspired lounge room. Stunning! The print is precise, clear and of an excellent standard. It was cleverly packaged so there wasn’t a blemish or crease. Perfect!
