Film Noir - Classic Movies Poster
A perfect choice for classic cinema fan. "Film noir" is a term used to describe a specific style of filmmaking that emerged in the United States in the 1940s and 1950s. The term itself is French, meaning "black film" or "dark film," and it was originally used by French critics to describe a particular subset of American crime films. Film noir is known for its distinctive visual and thematic elements, and it has had a significant influence on the world of cinema.
Here are some key characteristics of film noir:
Dark and moody atmosphere: Film noir is often chraacterised by a dark and moody visual style, with a heavy emphasis on shadow and contrast. Low-key lighting and chiaroscuro (high-contrast) cinematography are common, creating a sense of mystery and tension.
Urban settings: Many film noirs are set in gritty, urban environments, such as the mean streets of a big city. These settings contribute to the sense of moral ambiguity and danger that is often associated with the genre.
Complex and morally ambiguous characters: Film noir typically features characters who are morally ambiguous, often caught up in situations involving crime, deception, and moral ambiguity. The protagonists are often flawed and may find themselves on the wrong side of the law.
Femme fatale: A recurring character archetype in film noir is the femme fatale, a seductive and enigmatic woman who leads the male protagonist into dangerous and morally ambiguous situations. She is often associated with manipulation and betrayal.
Voice-over narration: Many film noirs use voice-over narration to provide insight into the thoughts and motivations of the characters. This narrative technique is often used to create a sense of subjectivity and to convey a sense of fatalism.
Non-linear storytelling: Film noirs frequently employ non-linear storytelling techniques, such as flashbacks and multiple perspectives, which contribute to the complexity of the narrative.
Existential and philosophical themes: Film noir often explores existential and philosophical themes, including questions of fate, identity, and the consequences of human actions. It tends to have a pessimistic worldview and a sense of moral ambiguity.

I hung this in the stairwell of our house, near some other Renoir pictures. My daughter says it looks like she is looking at her when she walks up the stairs.
it's called "The Excursionist", she is holding a walking stick. Renoir was an impressionist, I don't think this is an actual person. The finished framed picture arrived and looks better than the online pic - Beautiful!

Absolutely superb Art Deco poster. The colours are vibrant, sympathetic to the era and perfect for use. I framed it and hung above the entrance to my Art Deco inspired lounge room. Stunning! The print is precise, clear and of an excellent standard. It was cleverly packaged so there wasn’t a blemish or crease. Perfect!
