Female House Finch Bird Spiny Ocotillo Branch Label

These birds were originally native only to Mexico and the Southwestern USA, but were later introduced into the Eastern USA and Hawaii. The adult males' head, neck, and shoulders a reddish colour. The colour sometimes extends down to the belly and down the back, between the wings. This coloration varies in intensity with the seasons and comes from to berries and fruits in its diet. Their varied diet can make the coloration look different from one to another. These birds are the same size as a house sparrow but generally more slender in appearance. The often gather together in groups at feeders, or feed on the ground on weed stalks or in trees. They can be found in city parks, urban centres, farms and forest edges across the North American continent. in the western U.S. you can also find them in their native habitats of deserts, grassland, chaparral, and open woods.
