Fall Seven Times - Stand Up Eight is a Japanese saying to bring good luck and encouragement to persist even when you make a mistake or something goes wrong. The red roly-poly Japanese Daruma doll which always gets back up when you push it over is the meme for this positive way of thinking in the face of difficulties. Daruma was the founder of Chan (Zen) Buddhism, and sat meditating in a cave for nine years, which is where he got the reputation for having no arms and legs! Daruma taught martial arts to the monks at the famous Chinese Shaolin Temple, however, so we know he had very strong arms and legs!

The quality of these larger mugs is very good. I have been putting mine through the dishwasher all the time and it shows no signs of fading or dulling. Ergonomically these are lovely to hold and have fast become my favourite mug for a big cup of tea or coffee. Totally recommend getting the tea infuser with the mug especially if you like using loose leaf tea, which always tastes better from my experience and is better for the environment. Printing was good, bright and most importantly accurately matches the colouring shown on the website.
