Ernest Hogan Plaque
A 19th and 20th century African-American composer, comedian, and performer, born in the Shake Rag District of Bowling Green, Kentucky. He was the first Black to produce a star in the Broadway show “The Oyster Man” in 1907. In 1895 he composed several popular songs, including “la Pas Ma La” and “All Coons Look Alike to Me.” He died from tuberculosis in Lakewood, New Jersey.
