Epiphany Adoration of the Magi 1465-1467 National Gallery, London 50 x 136 cm. Tempera Renaissance After leaving the workshop of Filippo Lippi, Botticelli began his career with this painting. There are multiple problems with this image. The composition is organised into 3 areas where there is no clear balance. There are also multiple characters with little relationship between them. Despite this "negative" start to define Botticelli we should emphasize the treatment of line and colour on Mary. This special care was repeated in later Madonnas.
