Enabling Definition, Why Do It, Why Stop Poster

"Enabling is helping, assisting, supporting, or bailing someone out, in order they may avoid the natural (and perhaps unpleasant) consequences of their actions." Samsara, 2013. I decided to bring the words to print for the gentle souls who may like a hard copy reminder of Why they do it, and Why they stop (or would want to stop). Codependency in relationships is common: Parents to children, children to parents, romantic relationships, doctor and patient, teacher and student, employee and employer, to name a few. Anytime there is a desire to please a person or to help a person, for a particular mind, there is the possibility for it to become either trained or re-enforced to 'do it more' or 'harder.' For the one seeking to be pleased, this may sit just fine. But for the enmeshed codependent who seeks their peace or self-esteem from the success of their enabling or people-pleasing, their life has become co-opted.
