Elin Danielson-Gambogi Self-portrait 1900

Elin Danielson-Gambogi (1861-1919) was a Finnish-Swedish painter, best known for her realist works and portraits. Particularly her female portraits was considered rather controversial at the time. This greeting card is inspired by one of her self-portraits. The artist is probably sitting in her studio, with paint brushes and palette in her lap, wearing a dark dress (that seems very unfit for painting). She's looking rather curiously at the viewer. Behind her are some high up windows, a great source of natural light for the artist. There is also a thin veil to soften the light a little.
