Elemental Series: Water Poster

Within the matrix of the elements, Water symbolises both the fluidity and adaptability of life as well as the emotional currents and spiritual flow within our awareness. This piece is part of a series of “elemental crystals” designed to express the essence of each of the alchemical elements through crystal and hue. This particular work is especially dynamic, expressing both form and flow through the interplay of the blue crystal lattice with the undulating environment surrounding it. As with the other works in the series, the colours – orange and blue – are faithful to its alchemical representation. The icy blue of the water crystals were designed to evoke an etched and rigid beauty, while the rich umber of the background conveys both warmth and movement. Special effort was made to render the crystals translucent with the refractive quality found in most densely formed crystals. The crystals were drawn in Adobe Illustrator and then imported to Photoshop for colour and texture. Multiple sheered translucent layers were used to create the translucent quality to the crystals.
