Apollo 8. This view of the rising Earth greeted the Apollo 8 astronauts as they came from behind the Moon after the lunar orbit insertion burn. Earth is about five degrees above the horizon in the photo. The unnamed surface features in the foreground are near the eastern limb of the Moon as viewed from Earth. The lunar horizon is approximately 780 kilometres from the spacecraft. Width of the photographed area at the horizon is about 175 kilometres. On the Earth 240,000 miles away, the sunset terminator bisects Africa.

Quality of the shirt was more or less what you expect from Zazzle - no surprises (which is good). I was pretty pleased with how the printing turned out. I took an existing zazzle design, cropped it, stretched it, re-centred it on the shirt, moved it around a fair bit... & then added a bit of text ("earthrise".) It felt pretty risky... but the shirt turned out pretty much like the preview image showed! There was a bit of black residual border around the bottom of the earth hemisphere but hardly any - & that was my fault for not magnifying the image & taking note. All in all... I'm really pleased with the customizing abilities of Zazzle & I'd do this again.
