Dreamland Amusement Park, Coney Island N.Y. Postcard
Standing on land now occupied by the New York City Aquarium Dreamland was the third major amusement park located at Coney Isalnd N.Y. It opened in 1904 to compete with Luna Park which had opened the year before. It took it's style and unfortunately it's building technique from the wildly popular Columbia Exposition held in Chicago in 1893. It's life span was short due to a fire that destroyed it the day before opening day May 27, 1911. The fire started ironically enough in an attraction called Hell Gate a ride that took patrons on a trip through hades. This post card is from a gorgeous night time photo from 1905.
