Don't Frack With New York Magnet

Currently, gas companies are pushing New York to allow them to use the drilling technique known as horizontal hydraulic fracturing, hydro-fracking, or fracking to extract natural gas from the Marcellus shale formation. This method is dangerous, expensive, and illegal in many places. It is known to result in water, air, land, and sound pollution, as well as earthquakes. It requires a constant stream of extremely heavy trucks to run day and night across rural roads that were never intended to accommodate such traffic, as well as massive amounts of water and energy to run the machinery. What's more the gas cannot even be used locally as it must first be shipped off and refined. Perhaps most unsettling of all is that if gas companies are given their way they would be able to use your land against your will if enough of your neighbours sign leases with them.
