The daikon crest is probably based on a religious significance derived from a taboo purpose, as daikon is also one of the Seven Spring Herbs, just like seri and nazuna were chosen as family crests for the same significance. In Buddhism, daikon is used as an offering to Ganesha, also known as Shoten. Some believers of Shoten used daikon as their family crest (according to 'Nihon Monshogaku' by Norizuke Numata).
