The daikon crest is likely based on a religious significance with a purpose of prohibition, as daikon is also one of the Seven Spring Herbs, similar to seri and nazuna being chosen as family crests. In Buddhism, daikon is used as an offering to Ganesha, also known as Shoten. Followers of Shoten used daikon as their family crest (according to 'Nihon Monshogaku' by Noda Raisuke).
