【げんじぐるま】車紋／車は大昔からあったといわれる。文献としては『日本書紀』に見えるが、天皇が用いたものであったようだ。奈良時代になると荷車もでき、これは庶民にも利用された。絵巻物にもよく出てくるが、平安時代にも多くみられたのは、牛にひかせた貴族の牛車（ぎっしゃ）である。 車紋のデザインはこの牛車がもとになっている。車紋が家紋として定着したのは、鎌倉期のはじめである。 車紋は、江戸時代以前から源氏車紋ともいわれている。源氏車は『源氏物語絵巻』に多く出てくる御所車のことである。車紋にはこのほかに水車、風車などがあるが、圧倒的に源氏車が多く、車紋といえば源氏車と思われるほどであった。（丹羽基二著「家紋　知れば知るほど」より）

Beautiful horse drawing on this coaster makes it a great conversation piece. Artist is very talented! The printing Zazzle did is nice and crisp, but not as black as I would have liked and the edges had some execess on them But some sandpaper fixed the issue
