Declaration of Arbroath Robert the Bruce Tea Towel
This tea towel for supporters of Scottish independence features the famous words from the Declaration of Arbroath originally written in Latin and signed on April 6th, 1320, at Arbroath Abbey, six years after Robert the Bruce defeated the English at Bannockburn in 1314. It reads 'For as long as but a hundred of us remain alive, never will we on any conditions be brought under English rule. It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.' At the top of the design is an illustration of a single thistle, the national flower of Scotland. Beneath the stirring words of the declaration of Scottish independence is the famous portrait of Robert the Bruce, King of Scots, dressed for battle. The 700th anniversary of the Battle of Bannockburn takes place this year. The referendum on independence for Scotland from the Westminster government also takes place this year, on 18th September 2014, when people living and working in Scotland will vote on our country's future as an independent nation.
