De Morgan Ruby Lustre Owl Quartet Antique Repro Ceramic Tile

De Morgan (1839-1917) was an important Arts & Crafts movement artist who created stylized flora and fauna designs from both life and fantasy. Original red luster glazed tiles have a luminescent rainbow of colors visible when viewed from an angle or in indirect lighting. Perhaps that is why Charles Dodson (better known as Lewis Carroll, the creator of Alice in Wonderland) used ruby glazed De Morgan tiles on two fireplace surrounds in his own home. The light from the fire would have created an amazing dance of color on the tiles. We have tried to capture that luminescence effect in these tiles.
