Dark Tor - Iconic Glastonbury 6x10 Archival Poster

Glastonbury Tor is on its own a gorgeous place to spend a sunny summer afternoon. The views both of the Tor itself and the surrounding Somerset countryside are fabulous. But Glastonbury Tor is packed with history and legends. From an historical perspective, there's the beautiful lone tower at its summit. This piece of Gothic architecture is St Michael's Tower, a 14th century Gothic church tower that is all that remains of a church destroyed in the following century during the dissolution of the English monasteries. But Glastonbury Tor is also central to a lot of ancient legends, including the Arthurian Legends where Glastonbury Tor plays the role of the mystical island of Avalon. True to nature, the Tor was once an island before long-ago farmers of Somerset drained the surrounding marshes. Still, the Tor was central enough to English history, legendary or otherwise, to play a central role in the 2012 Olympic Games opening ceremonies.
