The Coronation of the Virgin with Saints Joseph and Francis by Giulio Cesare Procaccini (1605) Images depicting Jesus her son, God the father, the Holy Spirit and Saints Joseph her husband and Saint Francis of Assisi. Coronation of the Virgin is the final episode in the story of Mary's life. After her death, she ascended to heaven, body and soul, to be crowned queen by her son. Christ places an ornate gold crown upon the Virgin Mary's slightly bowed head. Groups of musical angels watch from either side as she is crowned Queen of Heaven. Saint Joseph was a 1st-century Jewish man of Nazareth who, according to the canonical Gospels, was married to Mary, the mother of Jesus, and was the legal father of Jesus. Saint Francis of Assisi better known as Francis of Assisi was an Italian mystic and Catholic friar who founded the Franciscans.
