City - New York - The Brooklyn bridge from 1903 Ceramic Tile

Colourized photo from 1903 Original title: Brooklyn Bridge Terminal Location: Adams St, Brooklyn NY This is the Brooklyn Bridge in NY. The started construction in 1869 and finished it in 1883 (taking 14 years to complete). The bridge cost $15.5 million to make in 1883 (which is about $394 million in today's money). It was also the first suspension bridge of its kind and also the longest. When it was first made they would call it the East River Bridge, because it was the only bridge that spanned that river. Many people worried that it wouldn't hold up anything. P.T. Barnum pulled a stunt that took 21 elephants and marched them across, and the bridge held them fine... That must have been quite a site. Over the years the landscape changed, buildings were constructed around it. It's always changing as it always is. Note the steam pipes coming out of every building. Some have a balloon stack on top to prevent embers from flying out. Can anyone find the laundry? (Hint its within the signs). How about the 2 sign painters on a ladder that looks really unstable.

Very happy when my tiles arrived. So good to be able to choose any photo for personal use. The colours are very clear and are far better than I expected.
