City - Chicago - Park Vista Kitchenettes 1941 Ceramic Tile

Colourized photo from 1941, April Original title: Kitchenette apartments Photographer: Russell Lee Location: 5000 S King Dr Chicago, Illinois Originally these apartments were located on 5000 South Parkway in Chicago. The road name changed in October 1968 to King Drive (After Martin Luther). There isn't a lot of information about this building other than the title of the image described it as a building that was rented to Negroes (the photographer's words). They also have kitchenettes inside. This was segregation in the 1940's, but other than that it looks like a really nice building. It looks to be quite old, and maybe at the time they felt that was good enough to live in. But its a real classy building if it remained around today, which its not, its just an open field now. Complete with balconies, rounded windows, has a sort of brownstone look. Its a real shame they did take it down. Currently the only building standing is the one just out of view on the left.

Very happy when my tiles arrived. So good to be able to choose any photo for personal use. The colours are very clear and are far better than I expected.
