Colourized photo from 1909 Original Title: Riverside Inn Location: River St & Main St, Saranac Lake, Adirondack NY This is the Riverside inn, it was built in 1860, and it was made by a guy named Orlando Blood. He also owned a lot of the land around it, and this eventually became the town. Originally this hotel was known as Blood's hotel (makes you wonder how many vampire jokes they told then). At the time, the Civil war was going on, and many people used this place as a hide out to dodge the draught. They either fled and hid, or paid someone else to take their place. But because of the war, the hotel was always filled and he made a lot of money because of it. In the late 1880's it was then called The Riverside Inn. The hotel changed hands a number of times, and as we can see here in 1909, the hotel had 61 rooms in total. There is a story that one of the owners worked the bar, and he was killed in a bar fight. The hotel ran in the roaring 20's and was eventually torn down by 1935. Presently there is a small park in the footprint of where this hotel sat. And that park is named after this hotel, Riverside Park. There is a near by hill called Blood Hill, as he was the founder of the town.
