Circle with Lowered Upper Character

Maru ni Sagejou is a family crest where the upper character is either facing upwards (Agejou) or is parallel to the lower line (Sagejou). The Murakami clan, who used Agejou, was defeated by Takeda Shingen, and their army was dismantled. Many of them camouflaged their family crests along with their surnames. However, they still used Agejou as a secret crest. Meanwhile, in Kansai, the Murakami Navy flourished, so they retained the Sagejou crest. Thus, during the Edo period, people in Kanto used Agejou, while those in Kansai used Sagejou. (According to 'Kamon Hyakuwa (Upper)' by Niwa Kaji). This design was created based on the same book.
