This particular species of Cicada has red eyes and translucent wings with orange veins. It spends most of its life underground feeding on fluids from the roots of deciduous trees in eastern North America. In the spring of their 13th or 17th year, mature cicadas emerge and are active for about 4 to 6 weeks. Within two months of the original emergence, the lifecycle is complete and the adult cicadas disappear for another 13 or 17 years.

I was extremely happy to find a tree ornament for my Occupational Therapist daughter. (I bought one a few years ago for my Paramedic son) & prior to seeing this I was trying to work out how I could create something similar for her.
