This design features a painting by the English artist George Stubbs (1724–1806), who became famous for his depictions of horses. It shows an elegant racehorse with a beautiful chestnut-coloured coat standing in profile. Its body is strong and sleek. The horse is standing free and unfettered in a country landscape next to an old willow tree with algae growing on it that is surrounded by green fields of grass. The ears of the horse are back, suggesting that the animal is alert and listening to commands or sounds in the environment. A racehorse like this could be expected to gallop up to 30 miles an hour.
