"Chapel of the Holy Cross" "Sedona Art" Poster

The chapel was inspired and commissioned by local rancher and sculptor Marguerite Brunswig Staude. The chapel was built on National Forest land by special permit and after 18 months of construction, it was completed in 1956 at a cost of $300,00. This spiritual citadel on a hill is one of the "must see sights of Sedona". As one of the areas earliest landmarks, it is also one of its most endearing. Though Catholic in faith, as a work of art the Chapel has a universal appeal and its doors are welcoming to people of all denominations who come to offer their prayers, praises and supplications. Many come to simply marvel at the building's distinctive architecture. In 2007, Arizonans voted the Chapel to be one of the “Seven Man-Made Wonders of Arizona”, The Chapel area is also believed to be the site of one of the "Sedona Vortices". More than half a century after its construction, the Chapel of the Holy Cross continues to be a place of wonder, spiritual renewal, and sublime vistas for all who come to Sedona.
