Cerro Rico Bolivia Postcard

Potosí was once one of the wealthiest and largest cities in the world, thanks to the silver mines of Cerro Rico, the 'Rich Mountain' that looms over it. The mountain has been mined continuously since the 16th century and remains a central symbol of the city's history and struggle. The city itself sits at an altitude of over 4,000 metres and features stunning Baroque architecture, such as the Mint House (Casa de la Moneda). The conical red-and-brown shape of Cerro Rico provides a dramatic and constant backdrop to the narrow colonial streets.
