Celebrating the first Astronauts from each Service Branch Since its beginning, the space program astronauts corps was primarily made up of male military test pilots. In 1967 that began to change with the selection of scientists. The advent of the shuttle program increased those kinds of opportunities, though military pilots still had the task of piloting and commanding shuttle missions. This design by Tim Gagnon honours the first astronauts fro each military service to fly in space in the order in which they flew. We salute their service. The modifications to their names are inspired by the iconography of their branch but no copyright protected symbols were used.
