Celebrating the Apollo Program T-Shirt

This patch is my tribute to Apollo Program in general and Apollo 17 specifically. Apollo 17 was the launch my Dad and I were invited to and it will always be a cherished memory. The figure is inspired by the Apollo Belvedere statue in Rome. I re-imagined him pointing the way to the future, towards Mars, instead of holding a bow, and instead of wearing a quiver, a strap with Roman numerals stitched on it, representing all the Apollo missions, starting with Apollo 7. An Apollo/NASA emblem pin holds the tunic around the neck of Apollo; a tunic made into an American flag. The design was created around the time of the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games, inspired by the runners taking a victory lap with their national flag around their shoulders. The three prominent stars above Apollo’s left arm pay tribute to the Apollo 1 crew; the two white/silver stars for Grissom and White because they were Air Force and one gold star for Chaffee since he was Navy. The other stars represent the Apollo astronauts that flew with the larger gold stars dedicated to the moon walkers. The six lunar landing sites are marked on the Moon. I depict Apollo directing the American Eagle forward towards the future.
