Catholic Wedding Prayer Card

This lovely, colourful wedding holy card is a perfect tuck-in for invitations, or for a keepsake handout at the reception or rehearsal dinner, or at any wedding gathering. The prayer on the back by Saint John Paul II helps keep us mindful that we should keep God in our weddings and marriages. “Lord God, from you every family in heaven and on earth takes its name. Father, you are Love and Life. Through your Son, Jesus Christ, born of woman, and through the Holy Spirit, fountain of divine charity, grant that every family on earth may become for each successive generation a true shrine of life and love.” – St. John Paul II The picture was painted by Wladyslaw Drapiewski (1876–1961), a wonderful Catholic painter who made some of the best Catholic art of the 20th Century. Born in Poland, he studied art in Germany at the International School of Church Painting, which taught religious art in the style of the Nazarene movement, a 19th Century style which revived religious subjects in high European art. (We have several of his paintings in our collection and hope to have many more.) We love the colours and gentle tone of this painting. Mary has one hand over Jesus, present within her, and the other hand uplifted to receive the ring Joseph is offering. Joseph has the lily of purity, which is almost like a staff.
