The Pawnee were one of the first tribes to settle in the Great Plains, arriving around 1200 CE. The Pawnee were agricultural, growing maize, beans, pumpkins, and squash. The Pawnee were perhaps the most religious group on the plains.
George Catlin was an American adventurer, lawyer, painter, author, and traveller, who specialised in portraits of Native Americans in the American Frontier. Travelling to the American West five times during the 1830s, Catlin wrote about and painted portraits that depicted the life of the Plains Indians. Born: July 26, 1796, Wilkes-Barre, PA Died: December 23, 1872, Jersey City, NJ.
