Carina Nebula Poster

This Hubble-derived image was digitally remastered by a 25+ year computer expert. These images are brighter & clearer than any other similar images on Zazzle and I challenge you to compare! This part of Carina is but a small portion of one of the largest seen star-birth regions in the galaxy, the Carina Nebula. Towers of cool hydrogen laced with dust rise from the wall of the nebula. Reminiscent of Hubble's classic image of the Eagle Nebula dubbed the 'Pillars of Creation' this image is even more striking in appearance. Captured here are the top of a three-light-year-tall pillar of gas and the dust that is being eaten away by the brilliant light from nearby bright stars. The pillar is also being pushed apart from within, as infant stars buried inside it fire off jets of gas that can be seen streaming from towering peaks like arrows sailing through the air. Heavily digitally reprocessed to augment fine detail, this image is ideal for display in the most distinguished of scientific forums. It looks mighty fine in your den, too! The NASA series! I start with great data & then find ways to bring out even more detail! In the case of this image, the NASA data contained a large amount of quantisation noise -resulting from the imagers being pushed to resolve information from LS Bits. Post processing was done using an algorithm designed to detect such noise after applying a Gaussian statistical model across the entire bit-plane. The algorithm then wiped out the random pixelation & replaced the noise with a continuous set of colour gradients representing the smooth gas layers. This image is therefore much less grainy than the original data while containing even more real detail. It is designed for museum quality displays and even further enlargement (200-500%) will NOT result in a grainy appearance. There is simply no better image available of this nebula -not even from NASA.
