Caravaggio's Flagellation of Christ Poster
This is a reproduction of Caravaggio’s Flagellation of Christ of 1607. The work was commissioned by the Di Franco family of Naples and was in the long tradition of depiction of this episode from the Christian gospels. The work was placed in the chapel of the church of San Domenico Maggiore in Naples close to two other Caravaggio masterpieces, the Seven Works of Mercy and Christ at the Column. The works were a sensation in Naples and inspired other Neapolitan, Italian and European painters. In 1972 the masterpiece, which measures 113 inches by 84 inches, was moved to the Museo Nazionale di Capodimonte in Naples.

I hung this in the stairwell of our house, near some other Renoir pictures. My daughter says it looks like she is looking at her when she walks up the stairs.
it's called "The Excursionist", she is holding a walking stick. Renoir was an impressionist, I don't think this is an actual person. The finished framed picture arrived and looks better than the online pic - Beautiful!

Absolutely superb Art Deco poster. The colours are vibrant, sympathetic to the era and perfect for use. I framed it and hung above the entrance to my Art Deco inspired lounge room. Stunning!
