In January 1754, a company of men from the Virginia frontier was raised by William Trent to build the first outpost on the Forks of the Ohio. Their 'forced eviction" of this site by the French, stirred the colonies to "Join or Die", a suggestive cartoon created unknowingly on the eve of the eventual conflict between Great Britain and France.
