Created by C.C. Beck, the creator of Captain Marvel, Captain Tootsie may have one of the unusual histories in comic books. The incredibly strong and agile hero was originally created to sell Tootsie Roll candies, which he ate whenever he needed an extra boost of energy on his adventures. But he became so popular that he and the three boys who joined him in the Secret Legion (Rollo, Fatso, and Fisty) were finally given their own comic book. Captain Tootsie was even brought back into comics for an appearance in Erik Larsen's "Savage Dragon." Not bad for a guy who just wanted to sell candy!
