Canada Goose Flapping Her Wings Blue Water Nature Postcard

A Canada goose (Branta canadensis) is spreading her wings, flapping and splashing as she bathes in the blue water of the Ottawa River, which forms the border between provinces Ontario and Quebec in Canada. Canada geese are native to North America and an introduced species in a few other regions, such as New Zealand and parts of northern Europe. These hardy waterfowl mate for life, and both parents care for the goslings, so it's no surprise that Canada geese have come to symbolise family, loyalty or fidelity, abundance and protection. These water birds breed in Canada and migrate south to the United States in winter, in the famous V-shaped flying formation of flocks. In areas where winter weather is mild and some geese stay all year. In this image it's spring time, and although her flock is nearby this goose seems in no hurry to pair up with a mate and start her family. She lingers at her bath, splashing around in the sunshine, and lets me take quite a few pics of her antics in the blue river. Wildlife nature photo by Sylvia Rose.
