About This Design

Calligraphy gilded initial vintage pear bug poster

Calligraphy gilded initial vintage pear bug poster

Antique Latin calligraphy with gilded initial and pear, fly, caterpillar and butterfly illumination. Pages from a 16th century illuminated manuscript titled 'Mira calligraphiae monumenta', in collaboration of two exceptional artists of the era. The fabulous calligraphy was created in 1561-62 by György Bocskay, Croatian-born court secretary to the Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand I - the fine illustrations of flowers, fruits and insects were added by Belgian painter and illuminator Jorist Hoefnagel about 30 years later, after Bocskay's death. DEFAULT PRINT SIZE IS 12" WIDE. I DO NOT RECOMMEND TO CHOSE A WIDER PRINT SIZE THAN 16" FOR ANY PRODUCT. IF YOU DO THAT, PLEASE BE AWARE THAT LARGER PRINTS MAY LOSE THE ORIGINAL IMAGE QUALITY OF THE MANUSCRIPT

I hung this in the stairwell of our house, near some other Renoir pictures. My daughter says it looks like she is looking at her when she walks up the stairs. it's called "The Excursionist", she is holding a walking stick. Renoir was an impressionist, I don't think this is an actual person. The finished framed picture arrived and looks better than the online pic - Beautiful!

Absolutely superb Art Deco poster. The colours are vibrant, sympathetic to the era and perfect for use. I framed it and hung above the entrance to my Art Deco inspired lounge room. Stunning! The print is precise, clear and of an excellent standard. It was cleverly packaged so there wasn’t a blemish or crease. Perfect!
