It is a member of the Cynodontidae (Dogtooth characins) family. It is native to the Amazon and Orinoco River basins and rivers of Guyana in South America. Cacunda is a common name and the species depicted is Conorhynchos conirostris. This predator uses its teeth to stab and grab its prey. It lives in river, lakes and flooded forests. It can reach a maximum length of 32.2cm (about 13 inches).

I hung this in the stairwell of our house, near some other Renoir pictures. My daughter says it looks like she is looking at her when she walks up the stairs. it's called "The Excursionist", she is holding a walking stick. Renoir was an impressionist, I don't think this is an actual person. The finished framed picture arrived and looks better than the online pic - Beautiful!
